System and human reliability

Teachers: Prof. Alessandro Silvestri

Type: Mandatory

Credits: 6 ECTS (48 contact hours)

Suggested prerequisites: Fundamentals of Statistics and Industrial Plants.

Aims:  Providing skills and competences on studying the ability of a complex system or component (including “human”) to function under stated conditions of working.

  • RAMS analysis of a complex system: Reliability, Availability; Maintainability (testability and maintenance) and Safety. Predictive models.
  • Effects of unreliability: costs of failure caused by system downtime, cost of spares, repair equipment, personnel, cost of warranty claims and preserving life and nature.
  • Human Reliability Analysis (HRA): human performance factors (age, state of mind, physical health, attitude, emotions, propensity for certain common mistakes, errors and cognitive biases etc.). Cognitive models.
  • Human factors and ergonomics, human-machine interactions and possible technologies in Industry 4.0.
