Suggested prerequisites: Fundamentals of chemistry; Phases diagrams; Mechanical testing procedures (tensile test, hardness test, toughness test, at least); Iron, steels and cast irons main phases;
Aims: Providing skills and competences on design and optimization of heat treatments in ferrous and non ferrous alloys.
Contents: Principles of heat treatments in ferrous and non ferrous alloys: austenitization; Time-Temperature-Transformation TTT and Continuous Cooling Transformation CCT diagrams; main industrial heat treatments procedures (annealing, normalization, quenching, tempering) and influence of heat treatments on the mechanical properties. Heat treatments simulation using FEM software (coupled FEM analysis).
